Collapsed Ideals

‘Collapsed Ideals’ is the second release in the ‘Guitar Trilogy’, from Yorkshire based maverick blues journeyman and instrumentalists Scott Wainwright, which follows up 2019’s ‘Sentimental Debris’. The idea has been to document and release collections of Scott’s solo acoustic guitar pieces and instrumental sketches as stand alone experiences, for guitar disciples everywhere.

With this release, Scott has taken the pieces not only through blues, ragtime and Jazz styles, but also through various ‘world’ music styles. All this gives the usual passing nod towards the Takoma Label kings of American Primitive Guitar, John Fahey, Leo Kottke and Peter Lang.

Pieces like ‘Eternal Piece’ and ‘Take Me Back The Way I Came’, touch upon the aforementioned Takoma style, where as ‘Blue Flame’ and ‘Regrettable Farewell’ travel into Moroccan and Balkan musics, whilst still attempting to reflect that the guitarist is essentially holed up in Yorkshire composing and playing these pieces.

Recorded once again at Limbo Studios in Otley, Yorkshire, with Studio owner and friend, Phil Snell, Scott completed the album in a single four hour session, with the minimum amount of takes possible for each piece. The resulting body of pieces, much like ‘Sentimental Debris’, captures a point in the artists time.

The album is released by SAW MUSIC on Bandcamp only, as a Download and limited edition CD. It will not appear in this form anywhere else.
